B2. GREECE: CRADLE OF THE EUROPEAN
CULTURE.
FROM THE ANTIQUITY
UP TO THE RECENT TIMES
General Information
The objectives of this seminar aim to give
to the participants α general picture of the Greek history and
the civilization that evolved in this historic European area.
For the teachers :This course gives them the
possibility to refresh Greek history and culture, enrich their knowledge of
the Greek civilization, and exchange experiences with their colleagues.
Athens
Athens
is a city that is worth visiting during the fall, because a lot of events
take place at that time. Athens
has a unique ambiance that reveals its historical path especially in regard
to its urban planning and architecture. One can walk through old
neighborhoods with neoclassic buildings, traditional taverns, and galleries
with exceptional pieces of art. Artistic events are scheduled throughout
the year in the new Megaron of Arts building or
in the Opera Theater, and in a number of theater houses all over the city. Athens is a modern
city with mixed populations, living in between the old and new times
somehow in perfect harmony.
OBJECTIVES
The participants will profit the following:
1.They’ll have Α
GENERAL PICTURE of the Greek history and the civilization that grew in this
historic European area.
2. ARCHAEOLOGY – ART – HUMANITARIAN SCIENCES
They will have a guided tour in the Acropolis, the market (Agora), the Keramikos, and the surroundings, where history comes
alive in every step. Moreover they will visit the Poseidon temple, the Archaeological Museum,
the Museum of Cycladic Art and the Benaki Museum gaining a spherical image of
the most important sites where the ideas that became the base for the
humanitarian sciences were developed.
3.EDUCATION
They will discover new methods to enhance their students’s
sensitization towards subjects from the domains of archaeology, history and
civilization rendering learning experiential and not just passive.
4.HISTORY – FOLKLORE CULTURE
They’ll be further trained in the following topics:
Α.Historical
elements of the most important civilizations that evolved in Ancient
Greece.
Β.Influence
of the Greek civilization on Europe’s evolution.
C.Aegean’s sea folklore culture (architecture,
pottery, household movables, ethics, habits, celebrations, etc).
5.LINGUISTICS
They will come in contact with the Greek language, a language with a
history of 3000 years and that was once the source of drawing words for all
European languages.
6.LITERATURE
They will have their first contact with contemporary Greek literature.
Furthermore with the bibliography of translated works that they will be
supplied with, they will be able to pore deeper into contemporary Greek
thinking.
7.MUSEUM LOGY
They will learn a museum’s structure and method of organization emphasizing
in the archaeological museums
Methodology
The basic method will be the EXPERIENTIAL and the AUDIOVISUAL.
We will implement local visits for most of the topics that we will
approach. During those visits we will provide theoretical explanations and
in succession through workshops the participants will be asked to prepare a
presentation for one topic so that the new knowledge will be transferred
into a field of practical implementation.
Moreover transparencies, power point and PC will become one of the
seminar’s basic tools.
Follow - Up
Contact with the
participants does not end with the seminar's conclusion, it is maintained
through e-mails and phone calls.Advice and
additional material is provided when necessary.Moreover,
the participants are given the orrortunity to
bring their students in Greece based on a programme on a program that
focuses in the evidential approach of the hellenic
civilization, through educational programs regarding Hellenic civilization
organized by NEOHEL in Greece, for schools combined with vacations.

Cost of Seminar:
750 € (2 weeks)*
There is a reduction of 100 Euro on the above mentioned * prices for
participants they don’t have a European grant (650 Euro instead of
750).

Refund is possible
depending on the date of cancellation (usually one week before the seminar
